Why

Preface:  I have invited friends and colleagues to share their writing with me so I can post it on the Don’t Waste Your Retirement blog.  This poem is a beautiful word from the Lord that my dear friend of over 4 decades shared with us this past year.  Everyone needs to enjoy it!  She lives in Texas and Colorado, which explains some of the references to nature.  Enjoy reading and let it lift your spirits in this season of life where we actually have time to ponder God’s amazing love for us.

Why

                                                  by Sue Gordon

Why do the fluffy, puffy clouds glow

Why is the sun so brilliantly vibrant

Why are the flowers constantly parading their beauty

And why, my God, do you love me?

Why is the sky a majesty of solid blue

Why at other times is it dark and angry heralding an on coming storm

Why does the glory of a double rainbow appear out of nowhere only to quickly disappear

And why, my God, do you love me?

Why do the trees shimmer their golden brilliance

Why is the eastern sky a blaze of glory

Why then does the western sky repeat a dazzling show

And why, my God, do you love me?

Why is the ocean in perpetual motion

Why do the rivers rush, thunder and cascade

Why do the streams splash and dance

And why, my God, do you love me?

Why do the mountains rise in such majesty,

Why do they hide their waterfalls, cliffs and lakes

Why is the thunder so mighty as it echoes from peak to peak

And why, my God, do you love me?

How is there is so much hidden and undiscovered in your heights

How do the mountain goats run, jump and bound from cliff to cliff

How does the ptarmigan change from winter white to summer brown

And why, my God, do you love me?

How does life survive in the lofty heights

How do the bristlecone pine endure the brutal cold and fiery heat

How do the amazing tiny wildflowers return year after year

And why, my God, do you love me?

Why does awakening to a snow covered landscape bring calming peace Why is the snow so beautiful as it silently falls

Why is it so inviting for games and forts and snow angles

And why, my God, do you love me?

Why are there trillions and trillions  of rocks everywhere

Why are some pebbles, boulders, hoodoos or spires

Why do some resemble lions or camels or elephants

And why, my God, do you love me?

And why, my God, oh why?

And why do you forgive my wanton sinfulness?

And why did Jesus suffer and die for me?

Oh why, My God, do you love me?

I cannot answer my question,

I do not know why You love me

But I know You love me,

Because Jesus died on the cross for my sins.

Oh God, Your Love is inconceivable

Oh God, Your love is beyond human reason

Oh God, Your Love is too deep, too high and too wide for my wildest imagining.

And my why is only answered in a prostrate chorus of unending praise and thanksgiving into eternity!
